WHY SHOULD I STUDY OR WORK ABROAD?
- To experience an exciting opportunity to live, study and learn in
a different environment with students from around the world
- To view familiar topics from alternative perspectives
- To have an opportunity to gain understanding and tolerance of other
cultures and values
- Opportunities for inexpensive travel throughout Europe
WHAT DO I NEED?
For term, semester and full year programmes a GPA of 3.0 is normally required
together with two academic recommendations and a current transcript. Students
should ideally have completed four semesters or the equivalent at their
home institution before their study period commences. However, consideration
can also be given to students in the second semester of their sophomore
year.
For Summer programmes, Internships and Service Learning programmes students
only need to have completed their Freshman year and the GPA required can
be lower.
WHAT COURSES CAN I TAKE?
Students are required to take a full academic load during their period
of study however numerous courses are available from a wide variety of
disciplines. Further information on course choice should be obtained from
your Study Abroad Adviser or from IRSS.
HOW AM I ASSESSED?
Students take regular undergraduate courses and are assessed in the same
way as full degree students at the host institution. This is normally
a combination of coursework and examination. On satisfactory completion
of the period of study students will receive a transcript showing grades
and credit awarded which can be transferred to the home institution.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
Costs vary considerably depending on the length of study and the location
of the programme. However the basic cost of tuition, room and board is
broadly equivalent to charges in the United States. In addition, however,
provision must be made for a transatlantic airfare and currency fluctuation.
An allowance for vacation travel should also be taken into account. Cost
of specific programmes can be obtained from Study Abroad Advisers or from
IRSS.
