The University of Dundee was founded in 1881 as a university college. For 70 years it was a constituent college of the University of St. Andrews, Scotland’s oldest university, before receiving its Royal Charter granting full independent status in 1967. Dundee is a traditional Scottish university, research-led with excellent standards of teaching.

The University of Dundee has over 14,000 full and part-time students. Around 15% of our students come for over 80 different overseas countries. Two thirds of the student population are Scottish, making the Study Abroad experience a real blend of the local and the international.

Dundee is a campus university in the heart of the city, on a spectacular site overlooking the River Tay estuary and the surrounding hills of Fife and Pertshire. A very strong sense of community is created by the location of most of our facilities – teaching, library, IT, retail, social, sports and student housing – on and around one site. Housing in single study bedrooms is guaranteed to all Study Abroad students and the University offers both self catered options and meal plans.

The city of Dundee is set on the east coast of Scotland, with the Highlands to the north and St. Andrews and Edinburgh to the south. With a population of around 160,000, it is large enough to support the range of cultural, sporting and recreation al activities expected of a major city, but small enough not to be overwhelming or impersonal for those coming to study here. Dundee has the best climate of all of Scotland’s cities, with more sunshine and lower rainfall.

The University of Dundee operates a semesterised, modular system. Study Abroad students typically take three courses per semester, equivalent to 15 US credits. Courses available to Study Abroad students are in the following areas, Arts and Social Sciences, Art and Design, Engineering & Physical Sciences, Law and Accountancy and Life Sciences.
